CHILLIWACK – A Chilliwack brewery that closed its doors last fall for a scheduled renovation is now expected to reopen a little later than anticipated.

Old Yale Brewing at the corner of South Sumas Road and Unsworth Road in Chilliwack announced last year that it would need to temporarily shut the doors to its original home in Chilliwack. Construction on its interior was slated to begin around Wednesday, October 1, in the hopes that it would reopen in spring 2026.

The brewery has since updated its estimated timetable for its reopening.

“Our Chilliwack restaurant is currently closed as we undergo a full renovation to refresh and reimagine the space. We’ll be back in Summer 2026 with a brand-new look and an even better experience for our community,” the brewery wrote on its website.

The brewery posted a social media update on April 1 indicating that it recently obtained its permit, which meant demolitions and renovations were officially underway. There will be a full and proper kitchen constructed, enabling the brewery to do pizza and so much more.

“As for opening dates – we’re still figuring that part out. You’ll know as soon as we know! Until then, thanks for hanging in there.”

The brewery had previously estimated that it would be closed for approximately five-ish months starting on Sept. 28, 2025.

Before its renovation activities got off the ground, the brewery said the interior needed a bit of a face lift.

“We’re not just renovating the space – we’re reimagining it,” Old Yale wrote online. “We want to create an environment that better reflects who we are, how far we’ve come, and the community we love so much. A space that feels intentional, welcoming, and worthy of every guest who walks through our doors. What we can say is that we’re giving the interior a much-needed glow-up. Think brighter, cleaner, more intentional. A space that feels fresh, energized, and true to who we are.”

Old Yale Brewing said staff were given advance notice of the closure, along with support and resources to help them during the transition.

“To make the impact we’re aiming for with this renovation – both in the physical space and guest experience – we knew we’d need to fully press pause. And that meant having some tough conversations with the people who’ve helped bring this place to life over the years.”

Old Yale Brewing opened its first location in Chilliwack in 1999. It also has locations in Abbotsford and Beaumont, Alberta.
