ABBOTSFORD – Nearly two dozen violation tickets were issued and just short of a dozen commercial vehicles were removed from Abbotsford-area roads during a joint safety check in Abbotsford earlier this month.

The Abbotsford PD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit joined forces with Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) personnel and the Passenger Transportation Branch to conduct commercial vehicle safety checks in Abbotsford on Thursday, April 9.

Officers were set up along the Sumas Bypass throughout the day to inspect commercial vehicles and ensure vehicles met and abided by provincial safety regulations.

As a result of the enforcement initiative, 24 inspections were conducted, resulting in 91 violations observed. Ten vehicles were taken out of service, two vehicles were towed, 22 violation tickets were generated, and three inspection orders were written.

“AbbyPD remains committed to proactive commercial vehicle safety enforcement to reduce collisions, protect all road users, and ensure commercial vehicles operating in Abbotsford comply with provincial safety standards,” AbbyPD said. “Partnerships like this enhance collaboration between police and regulatory agencies, helping to identify and address safety concerns before they result in serious incidents.”
