Abbotsford Canucks sign winger to tryout contract

ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Canucks have signed 24-year-old Braden Birnie to a professional try-out agreement.

Birnie recently made his professional hockey debut with the ECHL’s Rapid City Rush and had six points in nine games.

The 6’2, 192-pound winger graduated from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks this spring. In a news release, the Canucks say Birnie recorded seven goals and 18 points in his final year of NCAA eligibility. Over 114 career NCAA games, Birnie recording 16 goals and 31 assists.

Birnie is a native of Weyburn, Saskatchewan. He played his junior hockey in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
