State of Emergency declared in FVRD
CHILLIWACK — The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) has declared a state of local emergency to deal with the potential damage created by the atmospheric river pouring rain into the Fraser Valley.
Board Chair Patricia Ross signed the declaration on Thursday (March 19). It will remain in effect until April 2, 2026 unless it is cancelled earlier by the FVRD.
The move will make it easier for local government to react to any flooding, landslides, or debris flows that occur as a result of the rain. Government officials have warned of the potential harm the weather system could have on the health of people, their property, and to infrastructure.
The region remains under a rainfall warning from Environment Canada the BC River Forecast Centre has issued a flood watch for the Fraser Valley.
