No pot of gold for man suspected of robbing Abbotsford gas station
ABBOTSFORD — The luck of the Irish wasn’t on the side of a man who wanted to start his St. Patrick’s day with a cigarette. Abbotsford Police say a 41-year-old man walked into a gas station in the 2000 block of Clearbrook Road shortly after 9 a.m., threatened staff with a weapon, snatched cigarettes, cash and other merchandise and fled.
His getaway vehicle, a bicycle, didn’t help him much. Police say within minutes he was spotted by an officer who called for him to stop. However, the suspect continued to pedal.
The chase concluded soon after when the officer used his vehicle to block his path and force him off the bike.
Police took the suspect into custody and charged him with Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and Obstructing a Peace Officer.
