CHILLIWACK — Construction could begin soon on a six-storey, 80-unit apartment building at 44490 Keith Wilson Road in Chilliwack. City Council voted in favour of supporting the rezoning of the land to allow for the project to go ahead, along with a series of townhouses.

The project had received the blessing of the city’s Design Review Committee in December with no changes requested for the apartment building.

The structure will include 106 spaces for underground parking along with an additional 16 visitor spaces. The plans also include space for 101 bicycle parking spots.

The grounds around the apartment will include a covered seating area, a playground for kids, and a meandering walkway that will connect Keith Wilson Road to Sherry Drive.

Council was also told the property would include 46 trees on the property, twice as many as required by city policy.

Council also passed a rezoning bylaw, which will allow for the construction of a series of townhomes that will wrap around two sides of the apartment building.

Under the plans submitted to Council, five separate buildings will house 18 townhouse units. 54 parking spaces are included in the plans, exceeding the required amount of 40 for a project of this size.

The plans include space for an outdoor amenity area, community gardens, a picnic table, pergolas and a 200 square metre lawn.

The Design Review Committee requested some changes to the plans to improve street orientation to Sherry Drive and Keith Wilson Road, which were accepted by the developer.
