High streamflow warning in place for Chilliwack, Abbotsford and rest of the Fraser Valley
CHILLIWACK — The B.C. River Forecast Centre has issued a high streamflow advisory for waterways in the Fraser Valley. It is one of many areas across the western half of the province placed under a flood watch or a high streamflow advisory as an atmospheric river bears down on the province.
It warns residents to stay clear of unstable banks, which could give way and fall into the water without notice. It says heavy rain combined with saturated ground can lead to sudden erosion along the edges of all waterways.
A flood watch is in place for the central coast, while high streamflow advisories are in place for Vancouver Island and in Metro Vancouver to the north coast region and inland.
Weather experts are predicting heavy rainfall events to begin overnight Tuesday and continue through Friday. In addition, warming temperatures will lead to snow melt at higher elevations, sending more water into creeks, streams, and rivers.
