CHILLIWACK — Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Chilliwack, Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley.  It’s forecasting a long episode of rain, which is expected to continue through Thursday.

The national weather office says the prolonged rain could produce the potential of flooding in local river systems.

It suggests motorists should expect extensive water pooling on roads and advises that washouts may occur. It goes on to warn of the enhanced risk of landslides due to the saturating rains hitting the area.

The precipitation is being fueled by a series of weather systems that will move across the Fraser Valley on Tuesday afternoon.  It says the prolonged period of rainfall could amount to 100 mm of rain through the Fraser Valley, particularly near the mountains. The heavy rain is expected to ease Thursday.
