ABBOTSFORD – The Abbotsford Police Department is hailing the recent conviction of a dangerous 29-year-old man who previously rammed two police vehicles during a high-risk traffic stop and was later found have a loaded handgun in his possession.

In a statement, AbbyPD says holding people involved in criminal activity accountable often requires extensive behind the scenes work that most people never get to see. As an example, the Abbotsford PD’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) is one of the specialized teams dedicated to this work—conducting covert surveillance, following evidence trails, executing search warrants, and working tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.

In May 2025, a 2015 Mercedes C300 was stolen in Surrey. On July 10, the stolen vehicle was seen fuelling up at the Chevron on McCallum Road in Abbotsford. Officers attempted to box in the vehicle to arrest the driver, but the suspect rammed two police vehicles and fled at dangerous speeds.

From there, CRU detectives launched a detailed and lengthy investigation, working quietly in the background to identify the suspect and gather the evidence needed to hold him accountable.

On August 14, 29-year-old Devin Wilkinson was located and arrested in Abbotsford. During the arrest, Wilkinson once again attempted to flee on foot and was found in possession of a loaded handgun. He was recently convicted of possession of a restricted firearm and dangerous driving and is now serving his sentence, the AbbyPD said.

“A big thank you to the men and women of our Crime Reduction Unit—your dedication, professionalism, and tireless behind the scenes efforts play a critical role in keeping Abbotsford safe. Your work often goes unseen, but it never goes unnoticed,” AbbyPD said.
