Nashville SC beats Atletico Ottawa 2-0 in Champions Cup opener

OTTAWA — Canadian-born Woobens Pacius scored in the 66th minute, striker Sam Surridge scored five minutes into stoppage time, and the visiting Nashville Soccer Club edged Atletico Ottawa 2-0 in the opening game of their two-leg, first round CONCACAF Champions Cup matchup on Tuesday.

Nashville SC, which plays in Major League Soccer, outshot the hosts 17-6 (6-0 on target) and took 10 of the match’s 14 fouls. Nashville also had five corners.

Atletico Ottawa, which plays in the Canadian Premier League, had more ball possession (54 per cent to 46) in its first-ever match against an MLS team.

Game 2 is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Geodis Park in Nashville, Tenn.
