Chilliwack School District looks to hire admin assistants at nearly $30/hour

CHILLIWACK – Opportunities like these making nearly $30/hour in a school setting don’t always come around.

The Chilliwack School District says it is seeking enthusiastic, qualified casual administrative assistants to join its on-call pool of administrative pros.

According to a posting on Indeed.ca, the school district is looking for eligible candidates to take on casual assignments at various school sites that can range from one day to several weeks, covering short-term periods, peak periods or special projects.

The role involves a variety of clerical and administrative reception duties in a fast-paced school environment.

The district outlined the following core responsibilities of a casual administrative assistant:

  • Perform general clerical and reception duties in a school office environment
  • Input and retrieve data in district and school systems (e.g., attendance, scheduling, student records)
  • Prepare and format documents such as correspondence, newsletters, reports, and memoranda
  • Handle phone, email, and in-person inquiries from staff, students, parents, and the public
  • Assist with student registration and records management
  • Perform basic bookkeeping tasks including cash handling, bank deposits, and cost tracking
  • Support staff with administrative software and office procedures
  • Organize and maintain files, supplies, and office materials
  • Assist in coordinating school events, meetings, and schedules
  • Operate standard office equipment (e.g., photocopiers, postage meter, PA system)
  • Respond to emergent office or clerical needs as required

The hourly rate is $29.38 an hour.

Here’s what SD33 is looking for from prospective candidates:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Up to six months of administrative/office training
  • At least one year of office experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Keyboarding speed of 50 words per minute
  • Valid Safety-Oriented First Aid Certificate
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

In addition to a cover letter and resume, an application package should include an administrative training certificate and a first aid certificate. The Applied Business Technology program at UFV is one example of an administrative training program available to Fraser Valley residents right here in their own backyard.
