Traffic control company faces over $22,000 fine for allegedly unsafe practices at Abbotsford work site
ABBOTSFORD — A Lower Mainland traffic control company is facing a potential fine of over $22,000 for unsafe practices at an Abbotsford work site.
According to its website, WorkSafeBC says MP Traffic Ltd. was providing traffic control services for roadwork activities at an intersection. WorkSafeBC says it inspected the worksite and witnessed two traffic control persons positioned within active lanes close to moving vehicular traffic.
WorkSafeBC says the firm failed to ensure that traffic control persons were not positioned in an intersection open to the travelled portion of a roadway, a high-risk violation.
WorkSafeBC also claims the firm also failed to eliminate the risk of worker exposure to traffic in a work zone by isolating the work zone using constructed detours, alternative routes, barriers, or other effective measures. These were both repeated violations.
