No foul play suspected in house fire Friday that sent a 22-year-old male to hospital via air ambulance

SURREY — Police in Surrey now say they do not suspect any foul play following Friday’s fire in Cloverdale that sent one person to hospital via air ambulance.

According to a statement from police on Friday, Surrey Police Service officers responded to the blaze on Jersey Drive around 4:40 p.m. on Friday. Police say one person was inside the home at the time and had to be brought to the hospital by helicopter. They say the person is suffering from life-threatening injuries, but did not provide any additional details. Police say it is early in the investigation and officers are still working to determine the cause of the fire.

In a statement released Saturday, SPS and RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) now say a 22-year-old male who was located inside the residence and was transported to an area hospital by air mmbulance with life-threatening injuries is expected to survive. He is still receiving treatment in hospital.

Further investigation by authorities indicates there was an explosion and a subsequent fire at a residence. A single male was located inside the residence.

RCMP SPOSU General Investigation Unit (GIU) has taken conduct of the investigation. A fire investigator and the Integrated Forensic Identifications Service (IFIS) attended the scene to render assistance with the investigation.

While it is early in the investigation and the cause of the explosion and fire are still undetermined, police do not suspect foul play.
