Chilliwack-Hope MP Strahl to participate in rare town hall meeting

CHILLIWACK — He tends to maintain a fairly low profile, but Chilliwack-Hope MP Mark Strahl is set to participate in a rare town hall meeting next week in Chilliwack.

The nonpartisan event, known as “Civil Nights at The Grand Hall,” is described as a discussion forum meant to increase civic engagement between elections, and support a social form of political education within the general public.

Strahl has been invited to participate in the next event slated for Tuesday, January 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Grand Hall, located at 45939 Thunderbird Lane in unit 201, within District 1881.

The organizers behind these meetings hope to provide a comfortable venue for people to hear and share clear information regarding topics like:

  • The roles and responsibilities within various levels of Canadian/local government
  • Who to contact regarding what and best practices when doing so
  • Successful policy reform stories and recommendations to
  • Personal experiences and advice from past and current officials

In 2011, Strahl first ran as a candidate in the riding of Chilliwack—Fraser Canyon and was elected to the House of Commons, where he served in a number of key roles in Stephen Harper’s Conservative government, including B.C. Caucus Chair and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development. Strahl was reelected in 2015, 2019, 2021 and 2025 as the MP for Chilliwack-Hope. Strahl has served in a number of leadership roles as a member of the Official Opposition, including Chief Opposition Whip and numerous Shadow Cabinet positions, most recently as Shadow Minister for Transport.

Doors will open for next week’s event at 6 p.m., and the program will begin at 6:20 p.m., followed by an open discussion and mingling at 7:20 p.m., before the evening wraps up at 8 p.m. As a friendly reminder, no alcohol is permitted on premise during this event. However, outside food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome.
