CHILLIWACK — Construction of Chilliwack’s newest public school is progressing ahead of a projected completion in 2027.

The Chilliwack School District reported last week on social media that contractors recently poured the concrete slab for the under-building parking and are moving ahead with first-floor construction.

“Great progress continues at the new east side elementary school!” SD33 wrote online.

The district says support systems and concrete forms are in place for nearly half of the first floor, with steel reinforcement and electrical lightboxes ready for installation.

The new east side elementary school on McGrath Road will have space for 500 K-5 students. Construction is expected to be completed by spring 2027. However, that anticipated completion date is at least three months longer than what an SD33 spokesperson told Fraser Valley Today back in April 2025.

Bids for the construction of the new elementary school on McGrath Road in Rosedale closed in early March 2025, and the project was awarded to Double V Construction Ltd. The new school is anticipated to open in September 2027.

The design for the new east side elementary includes one level of parking and three levels of school space. Adding underground parking raises the future school to the required height above the flood plain and meets city parking bylaw requirements.
