Dec 23, 2025 | 6:47 AM

UPDATE #2, 1:15 P.M.: DriveBC reported at 12:54 p.m. that the Coquihalla Highway has reopened in both directions.

UPDATE #1, 10:25 A.M.: DriveBC now estimates the Coquihalla Highway could reopen at 12:30 p.m. later today. For now, the highway remains closed in both directions due to multiple vehicle incidents.

Original story:

COQUIHALLA HIGHWAY — The Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt remains closed in both directions Tuesday (Dec. 23) morning due to multiple accidents and heavy snow.

DriveBC first reported of multiple vehicle incidents affecting traffic just north of the Coquihalla Summit at around 9:30 p.m. Monday. It came amid a travel advisory for the stretch of Highway 5 as Environment Canada had a snowfall warning in place, calling for around 30 centimetres of snow near the Summit Monday night.

Environment Canada says heavy snow near the Coquihalla Summit is expected to taper to a few flurries Tuesday morning. DriveBC says crews are working to clear the vehicle incidents and restore traction.

Another update from DriveBC on the status of the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt is due at 8:15 a.m.

The closure marks the fourth closure in a week since last Tuesday, Dec. 16 when the highway was closed in both directions.
