ABBOTSFORD — Santa’s helpers came in the form of a local nonprofit this month after Archway collected 1,954 toys for its 13th annual Toys for Tots Christmas Brunch.

Archway Community Services says more than 1,200 guests attended the buffet brunch and raised over $52,000 for its Christmas Bureau toy room.

“This event is so special. It’s our community coming together to kick off the holidays in the true spirit of Christmas,” said Rebecca Thuro, manager of food security at Archway. “Every dollar goes towards ensuring local families can experience the comfort and joy of the season.”

Entertainment included princesses, the Abby Senior Dumline and Abby All-Stars, and guests also had the chance to get an up-close look at the Calder Cup.

“To every individual, family, and business that donated toys or made a financial contribution, your kindness will bring joy to children and seniors across Abbotsford. The impact of your generosity exemplifies the power of giving and the spirit of the season,” said Cindy Walker, manager of philanthropy at Archway.

Along with the toy pile, the Christmas Bureau is also hoping to raise $1.3 million before year-end to help the more than 1,300 families who applied for extra support during the holidays.

Anyone looking for assistance can visit online or call the Archway Food Bank at 604-859-7814.

New, unwrapped gifts can still be dropped off at the Food Bank’s location on 33914 Essendene Avenue, and cash donations can be made at AbbotsfordFoodBank.com/donate-t4t.
