One person transported to hospital in critical condition after crash on the Coquihalla Highway

COQUIHALLA HIGHWAY – One patient was sent to hospital in critical condition after a crash on the Coquihalla Highway between Kamloops and Merritt Wednesday afternoon.

BC Emergency Health Services confirmed it received a call about a vehicle incident on the stretch of Highway 5 outside of Lac Le Jeune at around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 12).

“One ambulance with primary care paramedics, one ambulance with advanced care paramedics and an air ambulance with critical care paramedics responded to the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical care and transported one patient to hospital in critical condition,” Brian Twaites, BCEHS paramedic public information officer, told CFJC Today.

Photos posted to social media showed a semi-truck jack-knifed across the southbound lanes with damage on the passenger side.

DriveBC reported that the southbound lanes of Highway 5 nearly eight kilometres south of Inks Lake Road were closed at around 4:15 p.m.

One southbound lane reopened at around 5:40 p.m. before the scene was cleared at around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

BC Highway Patrol says the Logan Lake RCMP detachment is investigating the collision. CFJC Today has contacted Logan Lake RCMP for more information.
