KENT — Search and rescue groups from Kent and Chilliwack have successfully found some missing fishermen Friday night (Oct. 24).

According to a social media post by Kent Harrison SAR, the group was paged out at around 5 p.m. to two lost fishermen on the Chehalis River Delta.

With the men’s coordinates at hand, the SAR deployed a ground team to get through to them from the west side of the delta.

After two unsuccessful attempts, additional swiftwater members from Kent Harrison and Chilliwack crossed the river from the east to find a new route, rafting across and traversing dense brush to locate the two individuals, with Chilliwack SAR’s drone confirming their location.

The fishermen were then escorted back to a waiting UTV supplied by the Sts’ailes Fire Department, who also transported Kent Harrison members, gear and subjects along the dike.

“With the rainy fall season upon us, we would like to urge fishermen and hikers to be cautious when hiking near rivers and streams, as heavy rain can cause water levels to rise quickly and streams to avulse from their channels, blocking trails and egress routes,” said Kent Harrison SAR.

“These fishermen did the right thing by calling for help when they realized they would not be able to get back to their car and staying in one place while our teams tried to access their location.”
