Former correctional officer from Abbotsford charged for breach of trust by public officer

ABBOTSFORD — Coquitlam RCMP announced Thursday that two charges of breach of trust by a public officer have been approved against an Abbotsford resident who formerly worked at a pretrial centre in Port Coquitlam.

According to a statement from police, Coquitlam RCMP launched a breach of trust investigation involving a former B.C. correctional officer employed at North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam.

On Thursday, October 15, 2025, two charges of breach of trust by a public officer were approved by the BC Prosecution Service and laid against Ramandeep Rai (nee: Bassi) of Abbotsford.

The first offence is alleged to have occurred between July 14, 2022, and September 29, 2022, and the second between September 11 and 29, 2022.
