ABBOTSFORD — In what proved to be their most formidable challenge of the season thus far, the G.W. Graham JV Grizzlies parlayed a dominant ground game of over 332 yards into a nail-biting 32-29 win over Robert Bateman Thursday in Abbotsford.

With the win, the Grizzlies improve to an impressive 3-0 in conference play, showcasing a ground game that keeps producing alongside a resilient defense. The Grizzlies’ offensive line, led by Max Kiener, Cole Dempsey, Cooper Cools, Brady Henderson, and Austin Pierce, laid the foundation for a powerful rushing attack that the Timberwolves struggled to contain.

Running back Landon Keddy was unstoppable on the ground, amassing an incredible 332 rushing yards on 40 carries and scoring a pair of touchdowns.

Quarterback Ben Fleenor expertly managed the offense, completing three of four passes for 72 yards and a touchdown, while also converting key first downs with two quarterback sneaks, including one that resulted in a critical touchdown. Wide receiver Jackson Gamboa was Fleenor’s go-to target, hauling in two catches for 64 yards and a touchdown. Gamboa also contributed on the ground with two carries for 12 yards, capping a 10-minute drive with a crucial third-down score.

The Grizzlies’ offense sustained drives and executed under pressure, ultimately overcoming a potent Timberwolves air attack led by quarterback Reid Dixon and featuring receivers Levi Grozel, Jackson Williams, and Parker Grant.

While the Grizzlies surrendered 22 first half points to the Timberwolves, they limited Bateman to just one score in the second half. Linebackers Liam Scott and Ike Carstensen anchored the defense with three tackles each, while pressure from Tyce Underwood, Landon Keddy, Cole Wallace, Macen Allen, and Brady Henderson upended Dixon’s normal rhythm, forcing multiple throws away. The secondary, led by safeties Jackson Gamboa and Jayden Farmer and cornerback Jackson Sutton, executed timely plays to thwart the Timberwolves passing game when it mattered most.

With momentum on their side, the Grizzlies are poised to face their intracity rival, the Sardis Falcons. The JV game gets underway this Thursday, October 23 at 2:30 p.m. at Exhibition Stadium, giving local fans a chance to witness the Grizzlies and the Falcons square off.
