UPDATE: Chilliwack teenager struck by a car transported to hospital in stable condition

UPDATE 12 P.M. TUESDAY: A spokesperson for the B.C. Emergency Health Services agency says the pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning in Chilliwack was transported to hospital in stable condition.

“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 8:36 a.m. today about a motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian at Yale Road and Charles Street in Chilliwack. An ambulance with primary care paramedics and an ambulance with advanced care paramedics responded to the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one patient who was transported to hospital in stable condition,” said Paramedic Public Information Officer Brian Twaites.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill says RCMP members attended and spoke with a number of witnesses.

“Injuries to the pedestrian were minor as was damage to the vehicle involved,” Sgt. Mulvihill said. “No charges were laid.”

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack first responders have been paged after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk close to Chilliwack Secondary School.

According to scanner traffic, Chilliwack Fire Department crews and B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics were dispatched at approximately 8:35 a.m. for the report of a 16-year-old who was hit at Yale Road and Charles Street.

Chilliwack Middle School is located south of the intersection of Yale Road and Charles Street, while Chilliwack Secondary is just north of the intersection.

Crews from Chilliwack Fire Engine 1 radioed dispatch at 8:40 a.m. to report that a patient was located down in the crosswalk, with no ambulance on scene yet.

Firefighters asked dispatch at 8:45 a.m. if RCMP members would be attending, since the driver remained on scene. Dispatch said RCMP would arrive shortly.

A Chilliwack resident who drove through the area on her way to work told Fraser Valley Today that first responders were working on the patient on the ground in, or near, the crosswalk.

The 16-year-old who was struck has been left in care of B.C. EHS paramedics as of 8:54 a.m.
