UPDATE: Police dog locates man in barn after Mercedes crashes on Hwy. 1

UPDATE 12:45 P.M. WEDNESDAY: A spokesperson for the BC Highway Patrol says a 33-year-old man with no fixed address was arrested after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 1 near Prest Road Wednesday morning.

According to a statement from BCHP spokesperson Corporal Michael McLaughlin, BC Highway Patrol personnel were called at about 8:15 a.m. for a single-vehicle collision eastbound on Hwy. 1 involving an older model grey Mercedes sedan.

Corporal McLaughlin says the driver of the Mercedes, who is believed to be the only occupant of the vehicle, left the scene of the collision. Multiple police officers arrived on scene, and a police service dog tracked a suspect to a nearby barn where a 33-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested.

The investigation is in its early stages, Corporal McLaughlin said.

CHILLIWACK — Multiple Chilliwack Fire Department engines were dispatched along with RCMP members and B.C. EHS paramedics for a reported motor vehicle crash on Hwy. 1 at Prest Road Wednesday morning.

First responders were paged at approximately 8:15 a.m. for a single-vehicle crash.

DriveBC advised motorists at 8:26 a.m. that they should expect delays eastbound due to a vehicle incident near Prest Road. Crews remain on scene as of 8:41 a.m.

Scanner traffic indicated that a person involved in the crash may have left the scene.

Fire crews radioed dispatch at 9:03 a.m. to say command had been transferred to Tender 4 while crews assist with traffic control. A tow truck is on scene to remove the vehicle as of 9 a.m.

Firefighters from Tender 4 radioed dispatch at 9:17 a.m. to say the vehicle was removed from Hwy. 1 and command was terminated.
