Abbotsford man celebrates BCLC jackpot – with an iced cappuccino

ABBOTSFORD — An Abbotsford man isn’t letting a huge jackpot go to his head by emptying out his wallet.

Timothy Hockridge’s ordinary day at home turned out to be pretty remarkable after learning that he won a $500,000 Extra prize from the August 21, 2025 Daily Grand draw.

“I was at home and looking at the numbers of my Daily Grand tickets,” Hockridge said. “I then took it to the gas station and scanned it at the self-scanner.”

The Abbotsford resident first shared the news of his win with his neighbour. “He came over and when I told him, he said a few choice words because he was so shocked!”

Instead of a bottle of champagne or a steak dinner, Hockridge is celebrating a little more modestly than you might imagine.

“I am going to celebrate with an Iced Capp!” Hockridge said.

Hockridge said the $500,000 jackpot gives him a few more lifestyle choices he might want to pursue.

“It opens up options for my lifestyle,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased and validated at the Chevron gas station on South Fraser Way in Abbotsford.

So far in 2025, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $34 million in winnings playing Extra and more than $5 million in winnings playing Daily Grand.
