CHILLIWACK — Homicide investigators in B.C. now say a man has been charged in the death of a 37-year-old woman whose remains were found behind the former Canadian Tire building earlier this year.

According to a statement from Integrated Homicide Investigation Team spokesperson Corporal Sukhi Dhesi, David Knox will face charges of manslaughter and indignity to human remains in the death of Chantelle Ruhl.

On April 21, 2025, at approximately 11 a.m., Mounties in Chilliwack were dispatched for a suspicious occurrence in the 7500 block of Vedder Road in Chilliwack. First responders had located the body of a deceased female, prompting authorities to close the area off for further investigation. By virtue of an initial assessment conducted by Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crimes Unit members, who worked in partnership with the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS), IHIT was deployed, leading to the identification of Ruhl as the victim.

Cpl. Dhesi says IHIT investigators have worked closely with the Chilliwack RCMP and IFIS to identify a suspect, understand the circumstances around the homicide and recommend charges.
