Two out-of-control wildfires spark east of Sunshine Valley

SUNSHINE VALLEY — Two new wildfires have ignited in the mountains east of Sunshine Valley Sunday (Aug. 31).
The BC Wildfire Service portal says one out-of-control fire was discovered roughly 2.6 kilometres west of Turnbull Creek, approximately 30 minutes southeast of Hope. Its cause is still under investigation.
A 0.009-hectare wildfire has also sparked at Gellatly Creek, only 13.6 kilometres northeast of the other wildfire. This fire is suspected to have been caused by lightning.
