UPDATE: One person treated after stove fire at Chilliwack home on Fourth Avenue Wednesday

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack firefighters were called to a home on Fourth Avenue in Chilliwack Wednesday afternoon for the initial report of a stove fire.

According to scanner traffic, fire crews were initially notified at about 3:29 p.m. about a stove fire at 46009 Fourth Avenue. The call was upgraded to a first alarm, resulting in Tower 1, another engine, and the Chilliwack duty chief to be paged.

Firefighters told dispatch there had been heavy black smoke coming from the second floor of the Fourth Avenue home, and all occupants were confirmed out of the house.

Within minutes, however, fire crews radioed dispatchers to say the fire had been knocked down.

Responding units were advised to stage at their respective halls for core coverage.

Firefighters said ventilation and overhaul were complete by 4:02 p.m.

The Chilliwack Fire Department says one occupant was treated by BC Emergency Health Services on the scene. No firefighters were injured.

Chilliwack’s duty chief radioed dispatch at 4:11 p.m. to ask RCMP to attend the address.

There were no injuries in the fire.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Chilliwack Fire Department.

Officials are reminding residents to ensure their smoke alarms are in proper working order.
