CHILLIWACK RIVER VALLEY — An injured man who reportedly suffered a possible leg or foot injury in the rugged Chilliwack River Valley backcountry got a helping hand Monday afternoon by Chilliwack Search and Rescue crews, a helicopter crew and ground paramedics.

The rescue involved at least half a dozen Chilliwack SAR volunteers, a helicopter and B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics, based on multiple pictures and videos taken by Chilliwack River Valley resident Derrick Kramer, who told Fraser Valley Today the incident happened Monday afternoon.

Kramer says he was told the hiker reportedly suffered the injury at Mount Lindeman, which is located generally southwest of Chilliwack Lake.

“By the looks of it, he couldn’t walk,” Kramer said.

Based on video taken by Kramer, the injured man appeared to be alert and talking as he was placed on a gurney by two B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics and placed in the back of a waiting ambulance.

Kramer captured video from the moment that a helicopter lifted off from a backcountry helipad, one that’s been used multiple times just this year alone during rescue efforts.
