CHILLIWACK — An Indigenous artist from Chilliwack has now been honoured with a BC Achievement award for her work in fashion and regalia design.

Rebecca Baker-Grenier, of Kwakiuł, Dzawada’enuwx, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh ancestry, has been practicing her art since she was 11 years old.

Since then, her pieces have been featured on runways at New York Fashion Week and Indigenous Fashion Arts Toronto, as well as in publications such as Vogue and Elle Canada.

“The 2025 Polygon Award in First Nations Art recognizes artists whose work reflects deep cultural roots and a powerful creative voice,” said Walter Pela, Chair of the BC Achievement Foundation.

“This year’s recipients carry forward tradition while shaping new ways of seeing, reminding us of the strength, courage, and vitality of First Nations art today.”

Baker-Grenier also holds a BA in Indigenous Studies from UBC, with her fashion design journey taking shape when she apprenticed under Himikalas Pam Baker and completed the Indigenous Couture Residency at Banff Centre.

“Through her work, Rebecca offers bold, beautiful reflections of Indigenous resilience, pride, and creativity,” reads her bio.

She joins Tseshaht and Port Alberni craftsman Gordon Dick in receiving the 19th Polygon Award in First Nations Art — an award presented to B.C.-based Indigenous artists across traditional, contemporary, and media arts.

A ticketed award ceremony and dinner is set to be held on Wednesday, November 19, at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre in Vancouver, BC.

The free, public First Nations Art and Applied Art + Design Exhibition will take place from November 18 to 25 at the same venue.
