HARRISON — Multiple first responders were called to Harrison Lake Wednesday afternoon for the report of a drowning, less than a week after the body of a male was found in the nearby Harrison Lagoon.

According to scanner traffic, Harrison Hot Springs firefighters and up to six B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics responded to the Harrison waterfront for the report of a husband and wife who reportedly fell into the water from a boat.

Scanner traffic indicated at one point that the husband could not see his wife.

First responders asked emergency dispatch whether Kent Harrison Search and Rescue would be contacted or activated, but an on-site witness, Harrison resident Tyler Man, said he did not see any KHSAR units on scene.

Man believes staff at a water sports business assisted the couple from the water.

“It looked like it because a boat pulled right up [to] where the Sea-Doo’s go, and it looked like they had a red shirt on like most of the lifeguard staff do,” Man said. “I saw that boat rushing out into the lake when I showed up, so that would probably be why SAR never got called out. I did see two people in the boat that looked wet, but they definitely didn’t look distraught or like anything bad had happened to them. They had life jackets on and when the boat pulled up, nobody moved in a hurry.”

Upper Fraser Valley RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill confirmed that first responders were initially summoned for a rescue effort.

“There was a report of a male and female in the water needing assistance,” Sgt. Mulvihill said. “Both were removed from the water and are back on the shore. EHS was called to the scene, but it is my understanding they were stood down.”
