CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack police officer’s traffic stop led to the discovery of more serious offences early Wednesday morning (Aug. 13).

At roughly 3 a.m., around Yale Road and Hazel Street, the officer stopped a car with three occupants who were driving without insurance and found other arrestable offences.

The RCMP member arrested all three people, then searched them and the vehicle– yielding a loaded handgun with three magazines, drugs in bulk, more than $18,000 cash and multiple cell phones.

After checking the firearm, police discovered it had been stolen from Northern B.C. during a residential break and enter in 2023.

“Multiple judicial authorizations will be done, firearms tracing, drug expert reports, and drug analysis are just some of the things that will be required to get this investigation to where charges can be laid,” said the Upper Fraser Valley detachment.

“In the meantime, a handgun and drugs, likely meant for the street, are no longer in the possession of these individuals.”

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on illegal activity is asked to contact the UFVRD RCMP at 604-702-4017 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
