Aug 15, 2025 | 9:59 AM

ABBOTSFORD — The City of Abbotsford has now announced some dates for the upcoming school board by-election to replace B.C. MLA Korky Neufeld in the fall, ending his over 15-year tenure with the district.

As of May 2025, the province has enacted a new act prohibiting members of the Legislative Assembly from holding positions in locally elected office.

This means Neufeld, an SD34 trustee who was elected to provincial office last year, would have to resign from his position in the Abbotsford School District.

Nominations are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 26, at 9:00 a.m. and will conclude on Friday, September 5, at 4:00 p.m.

Advance voting days will run from October 1 to 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Legacy Sports Centre in Abbotsford Exhibition Park.

General voting will be on the same hours the following week, on October 11, at these locations:

  • Eugene Reimer Middle School (3433 Firhill Drive)
  • Yale Secondary School (34620 Old Yale Road)
  • Aberdeen Elementary School (2975 Bradner Road)
  • Semá:th Elementary School (36321 Vye Road)

Nominees must be Canadian citizens aged 18 or older and must be B.C. residents for at least six months before submitting nomination papers.

More information is available through the City’s school district by-election page.
