CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Fire, Chilliwack RCMP and B.C. EHS personnel were dispatched Tuesday night after a pedestrian was struck at an intersection in Promontory.

According to scanner traffic, paramedics were called to Teskey Road and Promontory Road in Chilliwack just after 7 p.m. for a traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

Responding firefighters radioed dispatch to say they located a person on the ground being attended to by nearby bystanders.

A Fraser Valley Today reporter witnessed fire crews conducting traffic control in the aftermath of the collision at the heavily traveled intersection, while two RCMP units and two ambulances attended.

A landing zone was initially slated for Promontory Heights Elementary School, but B.C. EHS paramedics radioed dispatch to say they would link up with a helicopter at Chilliwack Airport instead. No reason was given.

The patient was transferred to the airport via a ground ambulance that left the intersection code 3 (sirens activated) at 7:40 p.m.

A B.C. EHS air ambulance landed at Chilliwack Airport at approximately 7:50 p.m.

Chilliwack resident William Snow provided video and pictures to Fraser Valley Today showing a helicopter landing at YCW. He said the helicopter had not lifted off as of 8:21 p.m., but the patient was transferred from the ground ambulance to the helicopter at 8:21 p.m. The helicopter lifted off from the airport at approximately 8:31 p.m.
