CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack start-up non-profit society is doing its part to help pet owners who might not be able to afford pet food or other essential supplies.

The group of Chilliwack-area volunteers associated with Zoey’s Pawsome Pet Society is currently running an online auction to support their goal of ensuring every pet owner, whether they are elderly, facing hardships or even unhoused, gets the help they need.

As Chilliwack resident Julie Chadwick tells Fraser Valley Today, Zoey’s Pawsome Pets Society is more than a food bank.

“We have kennels, beds, leashes and collars available most of the time as well,” Chadwick said. “To date, over 1,500 cats, dogs, and small animals have had full bellies thanks to the work of Zoey’s Pawsome Pets Society, where we help feed the pets of Chilliwack. This includes our unhoused community, low income families, the amazing team over at Chilliwack Community Services Social Prescribing Program and the Wellness Center.”

The online auction is open now and wraps up next week Wednesday, August 20 at 4 p.m. They’ve collected and received over $17,000 worth of donations, including items like gifts cards, for the online auction.

The dedicated team of enthusiastic supporters includes Chadwick, Lyndsay King, Jann Timmers, and Jackie Smith with community outreach. Its donation and delivery team features Laurene and Kris Thomas, Rachel Alexandrea, Sandy Heimbigner, and Tom Duncan.

Many of these volunteers have pets themselves and are delighted to lend a hand as the need arises for fellow dog or cat owners.

Proceeds from the silent auction will help Zoey’s Pawsome Pets Society cover costs for its storage building, buying specialty foods and helping support local seniors on a fixed income.

“We want to say thank you to everyone for donating and for bidding,” Chadwick said. “Zoey’s Pawsome Pets Society relies on the generosity of donations to cover its expenses, so the silent auction will go a long way to lend a hand to Chilliwack’s hungry pets.”
