CHILLIWACK — A longtime business in Chilliwack has announced that it will close its doors in the coming months after 15 years of operation, but will maintain its other location in Kamloops and an online presence.

Earlier this week, Jason Flynn, who also goes by “Flynn” to his loyal customer base, posted on Instagram that The Truth Skate and Snow skate shop at 45450 Luckakuck Way will close its doors in the coming months.

“Hey, Chilliwack. Flynn here from the Truth. Just want to take a moment to say thank you for 15 years of community support,” Flynn said in his Instagram video dated Friday, August 1. “It has been our privilege and honour for the last 15 years winters and summers. But, unfortunately, the time has come and we are going to have to close the Chilliwack location.”

The company said the decision to close the Luckakuck Way store was a difficult one.

“With heavy hearts we reluctantly share the news that our Chilliwack location will be closing,” the store wrote. “We are still here and sales have started. You won’t wanna miss this. We thank each and every one of you for coming through our doors. For all the good conversations and time spent, once again we appreciate you all.”

The Kamloops location will remain open, and the company still intends to maintain an online presence.

“After it’s all said and done we will still be at our @thetruthskateandsnowkamloops_ Kamloops location and online at our website ! We will be uploading a lot over the winter,
Snowboards, bindings, boots and much more,” The Truth wrote.

The Truth first came to fruition when Flynn never lost sight of his goal of owning a skate shop. Schooling and jobs came and went, but Flynn said his dream of owning a shop just never died.

“It all started with the age old question that a dad commonly asks his son when they’re a teenager: ‘What do you want to do with your life?’ In my case, it was at the age of 16 years old,” Flynn wrote on the store’s website. “Being an avid skateboarder and soon to be snowboarder, the answer was easy, ‘I want to own a Skateboard shop.'”

When Flynn caught wind that a good friend of his, Joel Hersey, was moving closer to him, he interpreted it as a sign of good things to come.

“Given Joel’s history having previous experience having already managed and owning shops, I thought he would be an ideal fit into helping me establish a local shop out here in the Fraser Valley,” Flynn wrote on Truth’s website about a visit Hersey made.

“I drove him to one of the local Chilliwack strip malls by the Bottle Depot in Sardis and said, ‘I want to open a skate shop called ‘theTRUTH’ right there, and I want you to be partners with me,'” Flynn said. “Without missing a beat, Joel agreed and we haven’t looked back ever since. With all that said, here we are now years later and we’re still living out the dream of the 16 year old boy owning a skate shop.”

Flynn said starting August 1, the store will proceed with its closing out sale.

“Everything has gotta go,” Flynn said. “We’re here until the end of October, but we may be out earlier. All gift cards are still active and honoured, and will continue to be active and honoured at our Kamloops location, even after the Chilliwack location closes, which continues to grow and thrive in that community as we still do the grassroots stuff up there that we did here.”

Flynn concluded his video with a heartfelt message to his customers.

“So, it’s a tough day, but again, I’d like to thank the community for 15 years,” Flynn said. “It’s been really an honour, and we’re gonna miss you guys. Thank you.”
