AbbyPD goes searching for child’s stolen bike on Facebook Marketplace – and succeeds

ABBOTSFORD — The bad guys didn’t win this time around, thanks to some nifty work by the Abbotsford Police Department in the past 24 hours.

In a social media post, police in Abbotsford say a child’s bike was stolen from a home on McKenzie Road Tuesday night, causing considerable angst among one local family and their child.

Fortunately, AbbyPD patrol officers took time to respond to the call and began investigating. Not long after, the stolen bike was spotted for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

AbbyPD officers tracked down the listing, located the bike, and successfully recovered it – reuniting it with its rightful owner.

“One happy kid is now back on two wheels!” AbbyPD wrote on social media.

In response to the bike theft, the Abbotsford Police Department is reminding residents of the municipality that it offers free bike registration through 529 Garage, a valuable tool in preventing and solving bike thefts. Its next in-person registration event will be held at Mill Lake on Sunday, August 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
