Hilary Weston, fashion model and former Ontario Lieutenant Governor, dead at 83

Hilary Weston, a former fashion model and Lieutenant Governor of Ontario who was passionate about helping women, youth and at-risk Canadians, has died at 83.

In a statement, her family called her “a beloved wife, proud mother, cherished sister, adoring grandmother and loyal friend.”

Businessman Galen Weston says his mother was devoted to her family and believed in the power and importance of community and service.

Weston’s daughter, Alannah Weston Cochrane, says her mother loved a challenge and had elegance and high standards that were matched by her warmth and sense of humour.

The statement says Weston worked as a fashion model to support her family and was a business leader for companies like Holt Renfrew before becoming Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor in 1997.
