Vancouver woman gets six-year sentence for stabbing stranger to death

VANCOUVER — A Vancouver woman has been convicted of manslaughter in a random stabbing attack that killed a 29-year-old man three years ago.

Police say Lyndsay Scott, 37, was initially charged with second-degree murder but was convicted of the lesser charge after a jury trial.

A news release from Vancouver police says the woman has been sentenced to six years in prison and another three years of probation with mandatory treatment at a forensic hospital, along with a 10-year firearms ban.

Police say the court found mental illness and drug use were contributing factors in the fatal stabbing.

The incident happened on July 11, 2022, in Vancouver’s Yaletown neighbourhood, where Justin Mohrmann was stabbed in what investigators describe as a random and unprovoked stranger attack.

Police said at the time that Scott was arrested near the scene, while Mohrmann was taken to hospital but died soon after arrival.
