Jul 31, 2025 | 9:19 AM

HARRISON LAKE — The Bear Creek wildfire along Harrison Lake grew marginally to 70 hectares in the last 24 hours, according to the latest information from the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

With the fire continuing to burn out of control, the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) has issued an Evacuation Alert for the North Cascade Bay Area on the east side of Harrison Lake. In a statement, the FVRD says those in the area should be prepared to leave on short notice.

The fire was spotted Tuesday (Jul. 29) and has led to the long weekend closure of the popular recreation site camping areas of Bear Creek and Cogburn Beach.

Two 22-person BCWS Unit crews are on site fighting the wildfire while five helicopters and a group of fixed-wing skimmers are attacking the fire from the air.

The BCWS is asking all boaters on Harrison Lake to steer clear of the area north of the Cascade Peninsula and south of the Silver River. That is the area used by aircraft to access water to use against the blaze.

Sections of the Harrison East and Kookipi Forest Service Roads are closed for public safety.

The Bear Creek wildfire is the only Wildfire of Note in the province, a sign of the significance wildfire officials are placing on the blaze.

The blaze is continuing to burn out of control however, weather conditions through the weekend are expected to be cooler, which will aid firefighters.

It’s thought the fire is human-caused.
