CHILLIWACK — Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for the area north of Hope through the Fraser Canyon. It says residents of the Fraser Canyon can expect to deal with daytime highs between 35 C to 38 C and overnight lows of just 18 C.

It says a ridge of high pressure will produce hot temperatures for the B.C. Interior through Thursday before moderating somewhat on Friday. Heat Warnings are also in place through the Kamloops and Kelowna area and north through the Cariboo and Prince George regions.

It warns that heat can impact everyone differently but notes the risks are higher for seniors, those who live alone and those with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.

The BC Centre for Disease Control has developed information to guide those dealing with heat-related situations. Its website includes information ranging from how to prepare for hot temperatures to symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
