Crews snuff fire along Coquihalla south of Merritt; highway reopened Tuesday

MERRITT, B.C. — A vehicle fire that spread to the surrounding landscape along the Coquihalla Highway south of Merritt Monday evening (July 28) was quickly brought under control.

At about 8:00 p.m. a semi-trailer burst into flames in the northbound lanes in the Coldwater area, about 18 kilometres south of Merritt.

The fire spread into the woods adjacent to the highway but firefighters were able to douse the flames before it grew beyond spot size.

The highway remained closed overnight but reopened around 5:00 a.m. Tuesday.

There is no word if anyone was injured in the incident.
