Emergency crews tackle fires, car accident on Highway 1 near Bridal Falls

POPKUM — First responders have had a busy Sunday afternoon (July 27) as crews deal with fires and a motor vehicle incident near Popkum and Bridal Falls.

Scanner traffic first reported a grass fire at 1:30 p.m. in the area of Highway 1 and exit 135– possibly caused by a wheel coming off a truck.

The Popkum Fire Department was then called out to another grass fire at approximately 2:30 p.m. along the highway near Yale Road, followed by a brush fire after 3 p.m. east of Popkum Road.

Google Maps also showed a crash heading eastbound around Herling Island. Amaika Belle, a witness, said the left lane had been closed down in that area.
