Dragon Boat Festival set for Harrison Lake Saturday
HARRISON LAKE — More than 60 Dragon Boat teams from across the Pacific Northwest are expected for Saturday’s Harrison Dragon Boat Festival. Organizers say teams from the Fraser Valley will be joined by squads from the Lower Mainland, Sunshine Coast and Washington State in the event.
Almost two thousand racers are expected to attend, which matches the size of the festival prior to COVID. Racing will occur in a women’s division and a mixed division. Boats will hit the water at 9 a.m. and racing is expected to continue throughout the day to 5 p.m.
The Harrison Dragon Boat Festival dates back to 2004 and is planned and staged through a partnership with Dragon Boat BC and the Fraser Valley Paddling Club. With its vibrant colours and dynamic action, it has attracted large crowds along the beaches of Harrison Lake in the past. It is the only annual Dragon Boat festival in the Fraser Valley and is free to the public.
Officials credit the support of sponsors such as Oddball Workshop, Real Canadian Superstore, the Province of BC, and the Village of Harrison Hot Springs for making the event possible.
