AbbyPD investigating suspicious death of care home patient in Abbotsford
ABBOTSFORD — Details are limited thus far, but police in Abbotsford are investigating the suspicious death of a person who experienced a medical emergency and had previously lived at a senior home in Abbotsford.
According to a statement from AbbyPD Sgt. Paul Walker, police were first alerted on Sunday, July 6 by staff at Abbotsford Regional Hospital regarding two patients who had been transferred from Menno Home. Police say both individuals experienced medical emergencies that produced concerns due to their suspicious nature.
Four days later on Thursday, July 10, one of the patients died. As a result, detectives from the AbbyPD Major Crime Unit promptly took conduct of the investigation.
“Detectives are currently in the early stages of this complex case and are working closely with Menno Home and other relevant stakeholders to uncover the circumstances surrounding these medical events,” Sgt. Walker said. “Menno Home immediately implemented additional safeguards to protect the well-being of its residents.”
