CHILLIWACK — A spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP has confirmed that a report of shots fired near downtown Chilliwack on Sunday night was not corroborated.

Like it did on Saturday night with a possible incident of shots fired near Ashwell Road, social media lit up late Sunday night when a heavy police presence converged on downtown Chilliwack.

Travis Schroeder posted a short video at 11:30 p.m. Sunday night of multiple police with sirens activated in the area of Princess Avenue and Williams Street, naturally piquing people’s curiosity.

“5 cops and 1 ambulance flying down Yale & Cheam Ave., anybody know whats going on?” Maddie MacInnes wrote in a Facebook post at 11:25 p.m. Sunday night.

A Facebook user named momzilla333 said, “I can hear all of them from A.D. Rundle (Middle), sounds like whatever is going on is pretty intense.”

Cori Beasant noted, “We’re at 7 cops and 1 ambulance past young and princess. Wondering what’s up.”

The area in question where police canvassed was described by a Facebook user as Princess Avenue between Williams Street and Young Road.

But Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill told Fraser Valley Today there was no evidence of a gun being discharged or any related injuries.

“That was also a report of possible shots fired and someone injured. The call was deemed to be unfounded,” Sgt. Mulvihill.
