CHILLIWACK — Despite online reports from people believing they heard shots fired, a Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson says police were not able to locate any evidence of a shooting Saturday night near Ashwell Road in Chilliwack.

Chilliwack-area Facebook groups lit up Saturday night as residents reported hearing what sounded like shots.

“The cops stopped on the reserve here on Ashwell and asked if we heard gunshots. Sounded like gun shots coming from across the field on Jimmie reserve or Wolfe Road somewhere,” Curtis Florence wrote on Facebook.

Caitlin Barron wrote, “We thought we heard gun shots too in Cedarbrook.”

Shilo Minuk said a heavy police presence flooded her neighbourhood.

“We had I think 7 (police) go past our house in the cul-de-sac, then they came out and went across Ashwell, then they came out and headed north on Ashwell – looking for someone maybe?”

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill confirmed to Fraser Valley Today that police were investigating a report of shots fired.

“There was a report of shots fired which resulted in a multiple member response to the area. No evidence of a shooting was located and no person’s in need of assistance,” Sgt. Mulvihill said.
