Firefighters control blaze just east of Harrison Lake

HARRISON LAKE — B.C. Wildfire Service now says the two-hectare wildfire that broke out just east of Harrison Lake over the weekend is under control.

An out-of-control blaze in the Harrison area ignited late Saturday evening (July 19). Locally based Harrison Adventure RVing shared a post about the fire at 1:49 a.m. Sunday, stating that it had started from an ATV accident in Cogburn Creek.

An initial attack crew was dispatched upon detection and battled the fire overnight. Upwards of 25 personnel were assigned to the incident on Sunday, along with two helicopters.

The business added that medical services were provided to at least one victim, and fire crews were on the ground overnight. Residents and campers reported evacuating at around 1:30 a.m., but BCWS states that there are currently no evacuation orders in effect, and the forest service road remained open.

“We ask residents to avoid the area if possible as this is an active work site and there are responders and aviation resources working in the vicinity,” wrote the Wildfire Service.

By Sunday evening, BCWS updated its website that the fire was being held.
