CULTUS LAKE — Crews have extinguished a burning gravel truck and trailer before it could spread to a forested area in Cultus Lake this morning (July 18).

At around 10:30 a.m., the Chilliwack Fire worked with Cultus Lake firefighters to put out a vehicle fire on Parmenter Road and Cultus Lake Road.

“The Chilliwack Fire Department responded to their request sending a Fire Engine and Water Tender to assist,” Assistant Fire Chief Wade Meeres told Fraser Valley Today. “There was some limited fire extension into the nearby forest which crews quickly put out. The scene was in control of the Cultus Lake Fire Department.”

The fire had been fully extinguished by around 11:05 a.m., but over the next hour, motorists continued to report delays of up to 30 minutes going southbound on the Columbia Valley Highway.

One commenter claimed that the driver is okay, and that the blaze started with an electrical fire coming down the hill.
