Jul 15, 2025 | 4:04 PM

CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack is now accepting applications for its annual Paid On-Call (POC) Firefighter Recruit Training Program.

The recruitment drive is open to individuals who are physically fit, community-minded, and interested in emergency response. All six fire halls in Chilliwack are staffed by POC firefighters.

POC firefighters are trained community members who respond to emergency calls and attend weekly training sessions held Monday nights. They receive hourly pay for both emergency responses and training.

Minimum requirements include being 19 or older, having a high school diploma or GED, residing in Chilliwack, holding a valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s licence with a safe driving record, and passing a criminal record check. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada, physically and medically fit, able to respond to calls year-round, and available for weekly practices. A clean-shaven face is mandatory for safety reasons related to the use of self-contained breathing apparatus.
