Young child dies after being struck by vehicle in Surrey Sunday night

SURREY — Police in Surrey are investigating a traffic collision that claimed the life of a young child pedestrian.

According to a statement from Surrey Police Service, frontline officers were dispatched for reports of a collision between a vehicle and a young child in the 13800 block of 64 Avenue in Surrey on Sunday evening, July 13, at approximately 8:17 p.m. On arrival, officers observed B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics administering life-saving medical intervention to a young child, but the child died. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

SPS’s Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) has taken over the investigation and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) has been called in to assist. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Global BC says the victim is a 3-year-old girl.
